There is something special about Solomon Schechter Academy.  It is hard to define exactly. Within minutes of your first visit, you sense the warmth and character of the school. Nestled as it is, beneath an expansive synagogue, it has the feel of being a solid foundation, both physically and spiritually. Its children, its teachers, and its staff radiate a rare joy in learning and teaching.

With a staff-to-student ratio of approximately 1:3, our program combines individual, small-group, and full-class instruction in a flexible and creative way. The children are vitally engaged in fulfilling their own intellectual promise and in defining their personal and cultural values. School unity and the importance of caring for fellow students are emphasized. There is focus on community, as evidenced by the student-created code of conduct for the school and by the caring that extends to the farthest reaches of our world.

There are no uniforms or bells. Daily studies flow from chapel to classroom to oolam (gym) to playground to library to computer laboratory, and for some, on to after-school programs. Jewish and global knowledge meet in a seamless way throughout the day.

The Solomon Schechter community speaks for itself throughout this website, not only in the words of school officials, but also through the individuals who make up our community: students, teachers,  parents, alumni, grandparents, and friends. After you get to know us through this site, we hope you will visit us in person and experience a place rooted in learning and loving kindness.

We are an affiliate of the Solomon Schechter Day School Association of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, as well as a member of the Connecticut Association of Independent Schools.
