Art's Night "Harmony High"

Event Date:
Thursday, May 23, 2013 - 6:30pm

On May 23, 2013 Solomon Schechter Avademy held its 40th Anniversary Art's Night in the Beth El Social Hall. It was a spectacular event! The evening began with a viewing of all the students' artwork, Pre-K to 6th Grade. The students put a tremendous amount of time, effort and skill into this exhibit! Not to mention the set for the production of the night - "Harmony High". The students donned 1950's style costumes and took to the stage to present the audience with a wonderful show about a school where everyone learns through song and dance. They were adorable in their poodle skirts, saddle shoes and leather jackets! They blew our bobby socks off! Our amazing Music Teacher Marcia Reinhard always manages to produce a show that wouldn't be out of place on Broadway. The children's voices were absolutely beautiful and it is always a joy to see how much they themselves enjoy Art's Night and everything it stands for. This year's theme, "blessings", was the inspiration for all of the artwork and music program. There was also an awards ceremony for the Math Olympiad the students participated in this year and - the piece de resistance - New London Mayor Daryl Justin Finizio attended the event and made a very nice speech about the school's important role in the community. A little bird told us that he was very impressed with the show and our students, too - and who can blame him?
