D.A.R.E. Graduation

Event Date:
Monday, November 16, 2009 - 1:00pm

On Monday afternoon, November 16, the 4th and 5th grade class graduated from the D.A.R.E. program at SSA.  The D.A.R.E. program, which is an abbreviation for Drug Abuse Resistance Education, was taught by Office Christopher Kramer of the New London Police Department Youth Services Division.  The objective of the program was to teach our students how to make healthy choices as well as to learn to recognize, avoid and get out of dangerous situations.  The program also allowed our students to interact with a police officer in a positive way.

Officer Kramer was ill the day of gaduation and unable to attend, but his colleague, Officer Bertsch, filled in for him.  Each student wrote and read an essay  on what they personally learned from the program at the D.A.R.E. graduation .  Officer Bertsch rewarded each student with a commemorative T-shirt.  The children celebrated with their proud parents afterwards, enjoying the cake provided by the New London Police department.
