Kids Teaching Kids 2015

Event Date:
Wednesday, December 23, 2015 - 10:00am - 12:00pm
SSA's annual “Kids Teaching Kids” program is an exciting hands-on learning experience. It is built on the principle that children learn best by doing. This year’s theme focused on force, motion, and simple machines. Younger students built a wheelbarrow and wagon to show important physical concepts, such as push vs. pull and wheels and axles. On Kids Teaching Kids Day, kindergartners taught peers about pulleys, inclined planes, levers, wedges, and screws. Second and third graders discussed friction, motion, and gravity. Fourth graders talked about Newton's three laws of motion and demonstrated key concepts, such as inertia, in a fun and interactive way. Thank you to our outstanding Schechter teachers, Dianne Zimmer and Judy Spitz who not only inspire creativity in the classroom, but also innovation in education. Judy remarked that "Kids Teaching Kids" is one of her favorite events at SSA because when children teach each other, they gain a much deeper understanding of science. Dianne commented that "Kids Teaching Kids" encourages teamwork between younger and older students. It is a day for Schechter students to shine.
