On Feb 12, 2009 the science teachers of SSA turned the social hall into an exciting, vibrant, teaching hospital. There were five surgeries going on simultaneously. Each operating room was staffed by attendings, chief residents, residents, interns and medical students. In room 1 there was a heart transplant going on, the staff in room 2 was taking out an appendix, the patient in room 3 was being treated for a rare muscle disorder, in room 4 a patient with arthritis was being treated, and in room 5 a brain tumor was removed. The very knowledgeable medical teams were comprised of the students (grades K-6) at Solomon Schechter Academy. These students learned from and taught each other while demonstrating their knowledge to their parents and visitors. Solomon Schechter Academy Medical Center was a place of cooperation and sharing.
