Learning about Helen Keller
Third graders gained a most valuable experience this year when learning about the life of Helen Keller. Discovering her challenges as a blind and deaf person has cultivated such empathy with the students. As they struggled to imagine what it would be like to live in a world without sight or vision, students were amazed at Helen Keller's drive and determination to learn all she could while encouraging others to do the same. The third grade has a new found compassion for people with disabilities that will remain with them as they navigate through life.
